Alexander Means
President 1854-1855 
- Appointed as professor of natural sciences at Emory College in 1838, the first year of instruction
- As president, proposes the college assume the property and charter of Oglethorpe Medical College, which the trustees decline
- As president, petitions the board for permission to teach in the newly formed Atlanta Medical College
- Resigns as Emory professor and president, and returns to teach for a short time after the Civil War
- First Emory faculty member elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science
