George I. Seney, a Brooklyn banker and railroad builder, made substantial donations to Emory College in 1881 after being impressed by the progressive vision of President Atticus Haygood.

Of his total giving, more than one-third went to construction of this building, which now serves as the main administration building of Oxford College.
