Winship Cancer Institute

Campus: Druid Hills in Atlanta

Namesake: The Winship family

Dates: Construction in 2003

Purpose: Health care

The current Winship Cancer Institute building replaced an older facility that had been part of Emory University Hospital.

Robert Winship was the maternal grandfather of Robert W. Woodruff and died of cancer, as did Woodruff's mother. Woodruff started the Winship Cancer Center with a gift in 1939, and the Woodruff Foundation helped support construction of the new building.
