W. Clyde "Doc" Partin Sr.
Director, Emory Athletics; Sports Historian
For 50 years, W. Clyde "Doc" Partin Sr. promoted "Athletics for All." Affectionately known as "Doc," Partin served as athletics director for seventeen of those years (1966 - 1983). He oversaw unprecedented growth in Emory sports and helped lay the groundwork for what is now one of Division III's elite athletics programs.
Baseball was Partin's true love; he could discuss the game for hours, and he served as an Emory assistant coach into his eighties. The batting cages at Emory's Chappell Park are named in his honor.
Partin's 2006 book, Athletics for All: The History of Sports at Emory, is the university's most comprehensive look at the subject.
