L. Bevel Jones IIIL. Bevel Jones III earned his undergraduate degree from Emory College and his MDiv from Candler School of Theology. His six pastorates were all in north Georgia, the same conference in which his father had served for fifty years, and in which his son David now serves.

Jones was elected to the episcopacy in 1984 and served the Charlotte area until his retirement in 1996 when he became bishop-in-residence at Decatur First United Methodist Church and, for many years, at Candler.

Jones is chair of the William H. and Margaret Pitts Foundation. He is a trustee emeritus of Emory.
